The video above is made by the Tourist Board of Thailand. I have chosen it not for the commentary but for the detailed shots it gives of Silom Night Market.
Silom Night Market opens at ‘around afternoon’ and closes at 2am. It is located next to Saladaeng BTS station along the main road. It is one of the best night markets in Silom and offers a good range of items to purchase. The video is good at showing you what type of things are on offer. Much of it is the usual tourist tat that see you everywhere in Bangkok, but there is enough variety to grab most people’s attention.
As the video says you will find cheap goods as well as items that are marked up and require a good haggle. It can be hard to contain your enthusiasm for something that you like, but the best way to get a bargain is to act like you aren’t that interested, that you are just browsing to kill time.
Shopping at night might seem odd to some, but makes sense in the heat of Bangkok. A shopping trip can be combined with a meal and a night out on the town. However, make sure not to leave your purchases at a night club or go go bar!
See the Google map below.
Trip Advisor reviews are mostly positive: the market is safe, fun and has a some good eating places.
