Thaniya Road has a side road called Thaniya Soi 2. The two roads are often both referred to as Thaniya Road.
As you can see from the YouTube video above Thaniya Soi 2 is fairly similar in terms of businesses to Thaniya Road. The area caters largely for Japanese business men looking for a little rest and recreation. Being close to Silom Soi 4 there is also the spill over from the gay area.
There are two notable hotels on Thaniya Soi 2 they are Suriwongse Hotel and Wall Street Inn. Suriwongse Hotel is a clean and comfortable 3 star hotel. It has 100 air-con rooms with en-suite bathrooms. The rooms feature air-con, fridge and TV. There is a coffee shop downstairs with free wifi. Room prices at Suriwongse Hotel start at 1,400 Thai Baht a night.
It should be noted that Suriwongse Hotel is next to Jupiter 2002, a popular gay nightclub. This is a gay-friendly hotel and also guest friendly hotel (see Nicky’s Gay Bangkok Guide http://www.nickysgaythailand.com/gay-bangkok/suriwongse-hotel/).
Wall Street Inn takes its name from the fact that Silom is sometimes referred to as the ‘Wall Street’ of Thailand. You won’t find many high-flying investment bankers and brokers here. This is a 3 star hotel with value-for-money rooms some of which have been recently renovated. The staff are pleasant and there’s a restaurant on the ground floor. They also have a spa room.
Rooms have air-con, flat screen TV and free wifi. Prices to stay at Wall Street Inn start at 900 Thai Baht. Wall Street Inn is a confirmed guest friendly hotel – meaning you won’t be charged extra for having a guest stay the night in your room.
Shops, Nightspots and Restaurants on Thaniya Soi 2
The most noticeable place on Thaniya Soi 2 is Jupiter 2002. To the untrained eye the green frontage might not reveal the nature of the establishment. It is in fact a popular gay nightclub. They have shows featuring hot buff and muscular men. The men are ‘up for it’. Drink prices are slightly more expensive than other similar places.
Marmalade and New Marco Polo are both Japanese karaoke clubs with hostesses. Moulin Rouge has lap dancers and girls to take out. Many of these are Japanese or Japanese speaking and are looking to make 3,000 Baht at a time.
Continuing with the Japanese theme, there is the Arima Onsen on Thaniya Soi 2. This is a Japanese bathhouse as well as a spa and massage place.
Heart Beat Club according to Nicky’s Gay Bangkok is a straight forward dancing bar with some very sexy coyote dancers. (http://www.nickysgaythailand.com/gay-bangkok/heartbeat/).
August Moon is a fairly big restaurant serving Chinese food. They have an interesting menu with some unusual items including Chinese style chips.
Thaniya Soi 2 is a quiet street, slightly away from the main bar/night club areas in Silom. It is good both for those who want less street noise at night and also for Japanese men looking for home comforts as well as men looking at and looking for other men.
